Hi Bob,
Welcome to the Microsoft community.
If you lot have more than than one account on your PC, y'all can switch to a different business relationship without signing out or endmost apps. To switch to a different account, follow these steps:
1. Open up Start by swiping in from the right border of the screen and so borer Showtime. (Or, if you're using a mouse, point to the lower-left corner of the screen, move your mouse all the way into the corner, and and so click Start.)
2. Tap or click your business relationship picture, and then choose some other business relationship from the menu.
And at that place is another option to switch between the user.
- Press CRTL+ALT+DEL
- Select SWITCH USER
- Select the user account which you desire to sign in.
Make sure to save any open up files earlier switching users because Windows doesn't automatically salvage files that are open up. If you switch to a dissimilar user business relationship and that user shuts down the computer, any unsaved changes you made to files that are open on your business relationship will be lost.

If you have more ane account on your PC, you lot can switch to a dissimilar account without signing out or endmost apps. To switch to a dissimilar account, follow these steps:
Both of those methods say "Signing out" then a screen shows the notepad file that is open, proverb "This app is preventing you from signing out." I usually take more than than one app that gets shut down when I sign out.
In Windows 7, you hit the start icon, a correct pointer, and go the choice of switch user, logoff or a couple of other choices. I would like to practice the aforementioned In Windows 8.

You can switch users without signing out. Om the Offset screen, click on the user icon at the height ...
I don't think so. Equally I recall, using the icon at the upper right will not permit me switch users without endmost all that I had going on. I wanted to try shutting downwards the network every bit Arul_D mentioned, but today is some other day, so I have another problem: It won't turn on. I only have a limited time this am, and then I will respond later regarding the no network option.
Final fourth dimension it would not start was after a calendar week+ of being off. This time simply a twenty-four hours or 2. And I did a shutdown type of turnoff this time. Previously pushing the ability button and the volume button got information technology to work. Not at present. I will let it charge a while before trying again. Then far, this tablet is not a practical option for taking on trips.

Does your computer belongs to a domain network? If your computer belongs to a domain network, when you click on your account name you volition exist getting simply lock and sign out option. If information technology is non a domain network Tap or click your account picture, and and then if y'all choose another business relationship from the menu you will non prompt for this message "This app is preventing you from signing out". You can hands switch between the users without signing out.
Not 100% sure what a "domain network" is. But after I was able to get-go the tablet, I went to my icon on the start folio, and it shows the 2 other users. If I click on either, I get: "Close App & Sign Out".
This is a private home, and my network is created when I power upwards the modem. So I accept wi-fi throughout the house. The desktop I am typing on at present is connected with an ethernet wire.
If I shutdown this computer, and the modem, and so the tablet in question is non on any network.
It behaves the same manner, i.e. If I don't shut down everything I have running on it, no one else tin utilise information technology.

This issue has not been resolved. With Windows 7 I could permit others utilise the computer wile I left several applications running. Windows 8 does not let this. Is this progress? The new version is less functional than the older one.
I guess I just have to live with information technology.

Is your computer up-to-date with Windows 8.ane? Or is it but Windows 8? This feature might be 1 of the new updates since my family tin can sign out without logging off on ours.
Otherwise, information technology does sound like your computer is fix with an admin/domain since our computers at work running 8.1 don't accept an option to switch users.

Using 8.ane on a PC with three users plus a invitee account, I merely opened several documents, signed out and signed on the other 2 users. No problem going back to my account and the open documents. Too, when trying to shut the PC down while other users were still logged, at that place was this alarm:
So it'southward conspicuously not an 8.one deficiency, and the OP is either using a domain setup or at that place'southward something incorrect with his installation. I suspect the former.
